ECOPRODIGI project enhancing maritime industry digitalisation in the Baltic Sea Region
Vessel Performance Solutions Aps is together with Aalborg University and The Ship owner J. Lauritzen responsible for developing improved performance management support in ECOPRODIGI in an ambitious project collaboration.
Vessel Performance Solutions Aps has received EU-funding to take part in an ambitious project focused on increasing eco-efficiency in the Baltic Sea region maritime sector through digital solutions. ECOPRODIGI* project kick-starts a unique collaboration between research organisations and the industry end-users to create and pilot digital solutions increasing eco-efficiency throughout the vessel life cycle. Ultimately, ECOPRODIGI supports Baltic Sea region in becoming a front-runner in maritime industry digitalisation and clean shipping.
ECOPRODIGI focuses in creating and piloting digital solutions for vessel performance monitoring, cargo stowage optimization as well as shipyard process optimization. In addition to the digital solutions ECOPRODIGI will produce, for example, a roadmap for maritime sector digitalization, and policy recommendations to authorities. Also, the project will design and pilot training programmes for shipyard ecosystems and organize public events for deepening the networks within the maritime sector.
The role of Vessel Performance Solutions in the ECOPRODIGI project is in co-operation with the Ship owner J. Lauritzen and Aalborg University to improve the office-vessel interaction in doing performance optimization on-board as well as an increased utilization of access to new data sources through big data with the objective to derive more consistent and higher resolution decision support.
“The project will through the collaboration with ECOPRODIGI Partners research on and investigate the complex challenge of engaging office as well as vessel crews in a combined effort to optimize the operational performance of vessels. The outcome of the research results will be implemented in our solution to the benefit of not only our project partner J. Lauritzen but also our other clients of which many are trading in the Baltic region.” states Jakob Buus Petersen.
ECOPRODIGI project has received more than €3 million from the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme. With partners’ own contributions the overall budget of the project is €4.2 million. The project is led by the University of Turku, Finland, and the duration of the project is three years. PROJECT // iSea
Vessel Performance Solutions is involved in the European project iSea which focuses on safer and more efficient coastal as well as deep sea ship operation. The project partners are Danelec Marine and I-marine from Turkey. The role of VPS is to develop more efficient ways to utilize high frequency data in the daily struggle to improve vessel performance, including detecting changes in both long term and shorter term performance.
Especially, VPS will develop methods that ensures that the evaluation of high frequency data can be significantly improved by advanced filtering methods and ways to combine low frequency data (noon reports) and high frequency data into meaningful decision support will be developed.
The project is sponsored by the Eurostars program and in Denmark financial support is organized through the Innovation Fund Denmark. VPS is grateful for the financial support to these important innovations.
Vessel Performance Solutions is participating in the Blue INNOship project in Denmark, which is an innovation project for the danish maritime industry, in cooperation with academia and GTS institutes to promote green technology in the 'Blue Denmark'.

The project will develop a platform for analysis of performance data, and our contribution will be to develop the analysis tool.
Another partner in the project will help develop a standard for communication (Force Technology), while the shipping companies Torm and Lauritzen will help set the system requirements and will also manage the implementation on their respective vessels as well as provide performance data for analysis. PROJECT // Performance Analysis
As a consultancy task, we have initiated a project to analyse autologging data for an overseas ship owner and operator. The dataset consists of three different data sets:
Engine Control System Data (1 minute frequency)
Voyage Data Recorder logs (1 minute frequency)
Motion sensor data (High frequency)
In combination these three sets of data allows us to make analysis of the following:
